Sooooo yesterday was the Coney Island Mermaid Day Parade of 2008, which is thrown every year since 1983 down Surf Avenue on or around the summer solstice, and is followed by the King and Queen of the Sea (of the year) going down to the beach and opening the water officially for the summer swimming season.
